We hope this will provide you with information regarding our clinic and what to expect during your consultation and subsequent treatment. Our Osteopaths endeavour to provide the very best in Osteopathic healthcare. Our Osteopaths provide treatment of numerous complaints including aches and pains, arthritic pain, backache, back pain, joint pains, lumbago, sciatica, muscle spasms and tensions, neuralgia, fibromyalgia, inability to relax, rheumatic pain and minor sports injuries.
Why see an osteopath?
In 1993, Osteopathy became the first major complementary health care profession to be accorded statutory recognition under the Osteopaths Act. All Osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (G.Os.C). The G.Os.C. describes Osteopathy thus (Oct 1998);
An Osteopath uses many of the diagnostic procedures common to conventional medical assessment and diagnosis. Osteopaths are rigorously trained to use their hands and highly developed sense of touch to assist in diagnosis and also to provide treatment. Every individual is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint. Physical treatment, when appropriate, is carefully explained and applied to suit the needs of each individual patient.
Visiting us for the first time When you visit the Rainham Osteopathic Clinic for the first time, you will be introduced to your osteopath who will take you to one of our comfortable treatment rooms. The initial consultation will last up to 1 hour. The Osteopath will spend 10-15 minutes asking questions about the complaint and your past medical history. You will then be asked to undress to your underwear so the Osteopath can examine your posture and spine. You will be asked to carry out a series of movements. The Osteopath will check your reflexes and may take your blood pressure, carry out an abdominal examination and any other relevant diagnostic tests and examinations. The muscles and joints will be examined. Your Osteopath will discuss your problem and its treatment. Your Osteopath is happy to answer your questions and give you as much advice as possible. Treatment will then be given. Exercises and even dietary changes may also be suggested or prescribed as we believe in prevention rather than cure.
